Student Visa (Subclass 500) Requirements and Application Details
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age Requirement: If you are a school student (not participating in a secondary school student exchange program), you must be aged 6 or older to apply for this visa. Additionally, your age must meet certain criteria depending on the year of schooling you are entering:
- Less than 17 years old when beginning Year 9
- Less than 18 years old when beginning Year 10
- Less than 19 years old when beginning Year 11
- Less than 20 years old when beginning Year 12
- Enrollment in a Course of Study: You must be enrolled in a full-time course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). Evidence of enrollment, such as a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), is required.
- Welfare Arrangements: If you are under 18 years of age, adequate welfare arrangements must be in place while you are in Australia.
- English Language Requirements: Must meet English language proficiency requirements.
- Health Insurance: Adequate health insurance coverage is required.
- Financial Capacity: You must have enough money to support yourself during your stay in Australia.
- Genuine Temporary Entrant: Your intention must be to stay in Australia temporarily for the purpose of studying.
- Character Requirement: You must meet the character requirement.
- Health Requirement: You and your family members must meet the health requirement.
- Australian Values Statement: If you are 18 years of age or older, you must sign an Australian Values Statement.
Visa Privileges:
- Participate in an eligible course of study in Australia.
- Travel in and out of Australia.
- Work up to 48 hours a fortnight when your course of study or training is in session.
