Short-Term Stream

This visa empowers employers to fill labor shortages by bringing in skilled workers when they are unable to find a suitably qualified Australian candidate.

Visa Benefits:

  • Work for up to:
    • 2 years in most cases.
    • 4 years with an International Trade Obligation (ITO), subject to specific ITO conditions.
    • 5 years if a Hong Kong passport holder.
  • Study without government assistance.
  • Unlimited travel to and from Australia while the visa is valid.
  • Eligibility to apply for permanent residence if criteria are met.

Duration of Stay:

  • Temporary, aligned with employer nomination:
    • Up to 2, 4, or 5 years, depending on circumstances.

Extension:

  • To stay longer, submit a new nomination by the employer and apply for a new visa.

 

Permanent Residence Pathways:

  • Potential sponsorship by the employer for:
      • Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) or
      • Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187).
  • Other skilled work visa options may apply.

Hong Kong Skilled Visa Holders:

  • Eligible for a 5-year extension from July 9, 2020, in addition to their existing time in Australia.
  • Pathway to permanent residency after 5 years for current and future skilled visa holders from Hong Kong.

Including Family Members:

  • Secondary applicants can be included based on the main applicant’s visa history.
  • Criteria vary for those who have or haven’t held a subclass 457 or TSS visa.

Health and Character Requirements:

  • Secondary applicants must meet health and character criteria.

Cost:

  • Main applicant: AUD1,455.
  • Dependents 18 and over: AUD1,455 each.
  • Dependents under 18: AUD365 each.

Medium-Term Stream

This visa allows employers to fill workforce gaps by bringing in skilled workers when suitable Australian candidates are not available.

Visa Benefits:

  • Work in Australia for your sponsor for up to:
    • 4 years in general.
    • 5 years if you hold a Hong Kong passport.
  • Study without government assistance.
  • Unlimited travel to and from Australia while the visa is valid.
  • Eligible to apply for permanent residence.

Duration of Stay:

  • Temporary, aligned with employer nomination:
    • Up to 4 years or 5 years for Hong Kong passport holders.

Extension:

  • To stay longer, submit a new nomination by the employer and apply for a new visa.

Permanent Residence Pathways:

  • Potential sponsorship by the employer for:
      • Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186).
      • Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187).
  • Eligibility for other skilled work visas.

Labour Agreement Stream

This visa is designed for skilled workers nominated by employers under a Labour Agreement. It provides temporary residence in Australia, allowing individuals to live and work in the country. Labour Agreements are mutually established arrangements between employers and the Australian Government, facilitated by the Department.



Visa Benefits:

  • Work in Australia for your sponsor for up to:
    • 4 years in general.
    • 5 years for Hong Kong passport holders.
  • Study without government assistance.
  • Unlimited travel to and from Australia while the visa is valid.
  • Hong Kong temporary skilled visa holders eligible for a 5-year extension (from July 9, 2020).

Duration of Stay:

  • Temporary, aligned with employer nomination:
    • Up to 4 years, dependent on labour agreement terms and visa validity.
    • Up to 5 years for Hong Kong passport holders.

Extension:

  • To stay longer, submit a new nomination by the employer and apply for a new visa.

Permanent Residence Pathways:

  • Potential sponsorship by the employer for:
    • Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186).
  • Eligibility for other skilled work visas.

Hong Kong Skilled Visa Holders:

This visa is designed for family members of individuals holding subclass 457 and TSS visas. It allows these family members to apply independently for their TSS visa and reunite with the primary subclass 457 or TSS visa holder in Australia.

Visa Benefits:

  • Live and work in Australia.
  • Study without government assistance.
  • Unlimited travel to and from Australia while the visa is valid.
  • Eligible to apply for permanent residence.

Duration of Stay:

  • Temporary visa, allowing you to stay as long as the visa remains valid.

Including Family:

  • Family members eligible for this visa are those in the family unit of the primary subclass 457 or TSS visa holder.

Cost: If the primary visa holder holds a TSS visa:

  • Visa application charge calculated based on the stream of the primary visa (short-term, medium-term, or labour agreement).

If the primary visa holder holds a subclass 457 visa:

  • Base application charge: AUD 3,035.00.
  • Additional applicant charge for applicants 18 and over: AUD 3,035.00.
  • Additional applicant charge for applicants under 18: AUD 760.00.
